Tattoo precautions contraindications to discuss before your session

This page offers general guidance, not a diagnosis. If you have a condition, treatment, allergy or doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist before booking — then tell me openly.

When should you postpone? situations where waiting is safer

Do not tattoo injured, infected or sunburnt skin, or an area with an active flare. Fever, an active infection or feeling generally unwell are also reasons to wait.

I do not tattoo during pregnancy. For breastfeeding and postpartum circumstances, seek personalised medical advice before considering a date.

Which treatments should you mention? what your artist needs to know

Mention medication that affects clotting, immunity, healing or skin, plus known allergies. Never stop prescribed medicine to get tattooed without the prescriber’s approval.

Diabetes, clotting disorders, immunosuppression, keloid history or skin disease warrant a discussion with a healthcare professional.

Who can give medical clearance? medical advice when needed

Your doctor knows your medical history and can assess medical risk. The tattoo artist assesses whether the visible skin and session conditions are suitable for tattooing.

If uncertain, seek written advice or postpone. This information never replaces a medical consultation.

Postponing a session is always better than gambling with your health.
