Sleeping with a new tattoo protect your skin without losing sleep
The first night often feels more daunting than it is. Prepare a clean bed, avoid putting weight on the area and follow the dressing instructions from the studio.
How should you prepare your bed? a clean and simple setup
Use clean sheets and loose, breathable clothing where appropriate. Keep pets out of the bed while the skin is most vulnerable.
A little ink or fluid can mark the fabric early on. Protect the bedding with a clean layer, never with absorbent material stuck to the tattoo.
What position should you sleep in? reduce pressure and friction
Try not to lie directly on the tattoo for the first nights. Slightly elevate a swollen limb and change position without rubbing.
If fabric sticks, do not pull. Soften it with lukewarm water, release it gently, then clean the area as instructed.
Should the film stay on? follow the dressing you were given
It depends on the dressing and your aftercare instructions. Cling film and second-skin dressings do not follow the same timetable.
Do not extend wear or re-wrap at random. If it leaks, lifts widely or irritates you, contact me so we can adapt the protocol.
The best sleep setup is clean, breathable and simple enough to leave your skin alone.
